What happens here?
You write a normal sentence in a chat. Honeycup checks whether the requested action is allowed. WordPress saves the result as a draft. Nothing is published.
You need the Honeycup plugin and your own AI access to get started. Use an AI app you have already set up, or connect an AI provider for the chat in WordPress. Additional Honeycup tools can wait.
Step 1: install the Honeycup plugin
Honeycup requires WordPress 6.9 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer. If you do not know the versions, find them in WordPress under Tools > Site Health > Info.
Free works without a licence key or Honeycup account. With Paid, the licence key is in the Polar customer portal.
- Using Free? Download the plugin directly. Bought Paid? Open your downloads at Polar.
- In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin.
- Select the downloaded ZIP file. Click “Install Now” and then “Activate”. Then open Honeycup in the WordPress menu.
- With Paid only: open the plugin’s licence page, paste your licence key, and click “Activate license”. With Free, skip this item.
This step is complete when the plugin’s licence page shows “Free active” or “Paid”.
Step 2: connect your assistant
Open Honeycup > Connect agent and click “Create dedicated agent user”. If you have already created this user, keep using it.
WordPress creates a separate Editor only for your assistant. It is not an Administrator. Your own user account stays unchanged.

I want to work in WordPress
This path requires WordPress 7.0 or newer and your own AI provider.
- Open Honeycup > Chat and Preview. If no AI provider is connected yet, open “Manage AI connectors”. Select your provider under Settings > Connectors and follow its setup instructions. Obtain any required API key from the provider. Enter it only in the designated settings field, never in the chat. You pay the AI provider directly, separately from Honeycup.
- Select the Editor you just created.
- The chat can now read your website. It shows you each change before saving it.
I want to keep using my AI app
Use this path for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, or another supported assistant. Your AI app must already be set up. Run the commands shown for Claude Code and Codex in a terminal on your own computer. The respective program must be installed; the Honeycup CLI is not required.
- Your website must be reachable from the internet over HTTPS. Use the connection address Honeycup shows for your website. The “Plain” permalink setting is supported too; in that case, the address contains
rest_route. Do not change your existing website URLs for this. If the connection fails, run the external diagnostics on the connection page. - Stay on the plugin’s connection page and select your AI app.
- Honeycup shows only the setup for that app. Follow the instructions shown there exactly.
- If your browser opens, sign in to WordPress, select the new Editor, and approve access.
- For Claude Desktop, download the offered MCPB extension and install it as instructed. For other apps, use a connection file only when you choose the Application Password path. Select the new Editor for that download. Restart your AI app if the instructions tell you to. These downloads contain a separate WordPress password only for the respective connection.
Never upload the connection file to a chat. Do not send it to anyone or save it in a public folder.
You are connected when your assistant can actually complete the read-only test in the next step. An open chat page or the “Ready” status alone does not confirm this.
Step 3: create your first draft
Copy this message first and paste it into your chat:
Check the connection. Read the list of posts and name up to five titles you actually read. Do not guess. Do not change anything. If there are no posts, say so explicitly.When the answer is correct, copy this second message:
Create a short test post titled “Honeycup Test” as a draft. Do not publish anything. Read the post again. Confirm that it was saved as a draft and consists of valid WordPress blocks.What success looks like:
- The reported titles appear under Posts > All Posts. A genuinely empty post list is a valid result too.
- Under Posts, you find “Honeycup Test” with the status “Draft”.
- The post is not publicly visible.
Honeycup is now ready to use.
